Add uberspace to the list of hosting providers
PR: #1289
Name: Uberspace
Category: Hosting Providers
URL: https://uberspace.de/en/
Description
Very cheap shared hosting with 10 GB storage located in Germany. Only email address required for signup. Every user gets free .onion subdomain.
I'm not certain if it is better than the ones listed or recommended.
Especially if it is both proprietary and doesn't accept cryptocurrencies.
Glad you found us and thank you for discussing to add Uberspace to the list!
We do not accept cryptocurrencies but you can pay via cash payment by mail for true anonymity. We think about accepting cryptocurrencies in the future but due to the bad ecological footprint we haven't made up our mind yet: we try to be as sustainable as possible, that's one of our key features next to privacy.
Proprietary is an interesting point! Our servers run standard CentOS with some custom scripts in
/opt/uberspace
to manage and maintain configuration files e.g. for the web and mailserver. The scripts are world readable so you can check every line of code for yourself. We also have lots of repositories on GitHub.I'm a bit unhappy with "very cheap" to be honest. It's pay what you want and cross financed with other accounts when it's very cheap.
Moritz (from Uberspace)
I haven't looked into Uberspace or hosting providers much in general yet.
Does that actually work? Here our Post has attitude of "of course money you mail gets stolen".
This is a big 👍 for me once I get around to looking further.
Assigning myself so I will be reminded a better time when I am looking at issues.
