gjhklfdsa commented 2019-05-14 02:55:44 +00:00 (Migrated from github.com)

Description: Add Social News Aggregators
Has this been discussed here before: Yes, #909
What do you propose: Based on the issue created before and knowledge I've since learned I recommend:

Main:
Aether
https://getaether.net/opensource/
https://github.com/nehbit/aether

Raddle
https://gitlab.com/postmill/Postmill

Tildes.net
https://gitlab.com/tildes/tildes

Worth Mentioning:
AKASHA
https://github.com/AkashaProject
https://github.com/AkashaProject/dapp/releases
https://github.com/AkashaProject/Community/issues/338 (relevant)

Voat.co
[redacted]

However, as always, a PR can be just as much as a discussion as an issue.
Feel free to share ideas and thoughts!

But isn't Voat for neo-nazis and Raddle for the radical left?
It is true Voat and Raddle personally may not censor much or anything (except required by law).
But board moderators (similar to Reddit) can still delete posts and ban users.

Users also have the ability to downvote negative posts. + NSFW tags

Why? Reddit is becoming more and more negative in the privacy realm.
Implementing trackers and other tracking methods. Probably, mostly for advertisement purposes.

Edit:
Added to worth mentioning:

Lemmy
https://dev.lemmy.ml/

NotABug.io (not the bug tracker)
https://notabug.io/

I checked the indexes of the pages and I don't think we should link to Voat. Maybe their source, but there are many other projects too, so I don't see it as necessary.

I see a conflict between Privacytools.io and Voat.co.

Be human, nice, respectful and constructive.
Don't be a pain in the ass and full of hate.
No porn, piracy, spam, hate speech, brigading, gore, doxing, racism and any kind of discrimination.

I think the GitHub link here is inconsistent between everything else. Why not link to https://getaether.net/ ?

@Mikaela To be clear, I do not recall being nice listed any where in the software criteria or contributing guidelines. However, while looking around I noticed Voat uses non-free code.

They also utilize CloudFlare. So, unless there is anyone else here with a different opinion,
I will retract Voat from my PR.

@Mikaela I thought their GitHub repo listed more links and made it easier for users to start using. However, if the overall consensus is to list their homepage, I wouldn't mind changing it.

@BurungHantu1605 Did I edit card.html?
Not sure what you want me to do. :)

Edit:
I see, you mean the section's html includes card.html.
Will fix!

Thanks to a comment made by @Mikaela I've been informed of 2 other services:

Lemmy
https://dev.lemmy.ml/

NotABug.io (not the bug tracker)
https://notabug.io/

I would like to include them in the discussion.

I think you forgot this here.

We had a confused chat on notabug.org and notabug.io a few days ago in #general:privacytools.io by the way, I offered gitlab.privacytools.io as an alternative to notabug.io prompting question what does Gitlab have to do with Notabug and I was wondering if Notabug is not running Cogs...

Thanks! Issue should be fixed.

Gitlab vs NotABug can be a very polarized issue.

Gitlab as I understand it, only partially has opened up their server side code.

While alternatives like GNU Savannah, OurProject, and NotABug are generally more respecting of the free software principles many of its repos stand by.

As for does NotABug run Gogs, it runs a "liberated" version.

If you want to discuss this further I think it would be a great issue.
Lots of stuff is wrong with Github. :)

Something is incorrect about the layout here, compare to the browser recommendation's cards. Not sure what the issue is at this moment but this shouldn't be merged until that is fixed.

However, I need a maintainer to merge.

I have no access to your fork, so I've moved your work to branch pr/930 on this repo and opened #1091, lets continue this discussion there @gjhklfdsa1.
