Description

Diatum is devoted to users, not corporations, and to giving people ownership and control of their data. We’re a nonprofit whose mission is create a better app ecosystem for everyone by protecting our digital identities and empowering privacy rights.

Diatabase, or digital identity database, is a decentralized storage space to upload, store and access the contacts, photos, data and files collectively referred to as your Digital Identity. Identities are currently hosted on user operated nodes. Each node can hold multiple identities determined by the admin of that node. The nodes are designed to run on a home system such as a PC or a Raspberry Pi 4, or on cloud servers provided by AWS, Azure or Google Cloud. You may create a node and host your own digital identity with a Diatabase. With sufficient storage, you can invite friends and family to host their identities on your node.

Dikota is a contact manager app. Adding contacts works like friending on social media, and is an easy, neutral way to connect with friends and colleagues. Labeling categorizes your contacts and controls what private information they can or can't see about you. The connection and contact data are stored in a user’s Diatabase.

Dikota is currently in Public Beta and is available on Android (Google Play Store, F-Droid coming soon), iOS (Apple App Store). New updates are released periodically with improvements, optimizations and new features.

API - At the heart of the identity network is the RESTful node API. The primary role of Diatum is to extend and maintain the API in support of a growing ecosystem. By following agile principles the API has been designed to first support the features required for Dikota and a social media app, but will be extended in support of the development of new apps for the ecosystem.

Why I am making the suggestion

We believe our database, apps and API with their privacy-first features, and Diatum’s mission to empower digital identity sovereignty, might be of interest to the privacytools.io community. We would appreciate beta testers and insight on whether this approach to privacy issues could encourage general adoption and overcome the network effect.

My connection with the software

I am a founder of nonprofit Diatum.

  • I will keep the issue up-to-date if something I have said changes or I remember a connection with the software.
