Basic Information

Name: Audius
Category: Video/Audio Platforms (see #2330)
URL: https://audius.co/ (source code: https://github.com/AudiusProject )

Description

Audius is an open source (Apache-2.0), distributed audio sharing and social network with a blockchain based economy. Using IPFS, it is censorship-resistant.

Similar to Funkwhale (#1679) but with a distributed model instead of federated and with a blockchain-based $AUDIO crypto monetary system for musicians to sell or get tips from listeners. It also provides a free unlimited metrics dashboard.

Why I am making the suggestion

See discussion at #1252 . There are not many fully open-source alternatives to host media content, and Audius is the only open-source distributed audio sharing network, with Funkwhale being the only federated one to my knowledge. The advantage of Audius is that, beyond the distributed model that has different implications for privacy and security than federated, it also offers additional features such as a dashboard and a way to get tipped natively.
