Basic Information

Name: [safe] money
Category: finance tracker
URL: safeapps.io

Description

It's an app that helps you log expenses and incomes, track your assets' performance, and plan for a bright and rich future.

Why I am making the suggestion

I was kindly asked by the moderator of the Reddit community to do so. Thanks again for not removing my post 😄

From the privacy point of view it's quite great: it is open sourced, uses e2e encryption for every meaningful bit of user's data, allows you to sign up without email, and we will accept cryptocurrencies as a payment method.

From the user's perspective, it is an offline-first (thanks to PWA), super-fast (thanks to Svelte), semi-automatic (we allow you to import CSV and OFX files and aim to support all the banks in the world) way to manage finances. According to the responses in the post, most people still add transactions manually — which is bonkers in 2021.

Privacy and usability are not mutually exclusive.

My connection with the software

I'm the author of the app.

  • I will keep the issue up-to-date if something I have said changes or I remember a connection with the software.

Should note that it is currently in beta. The product is finished, the billing system is all that left in my backlog. I decided to leave the product out there for some early users to gather potential feedback.

Just a small update:

  1. the app is now production-ready! Beta no more!
  2. we've put the backend code in the open source. It is not licensed yet, and we do not offer any way to spring up an instance for yourself (e.g., with Docker), but we're on it.
  3. got a user-friendly privacy policy and pretty usual terms of service and cookie policy.

Still eager to have some feedback.

Should post an update, probably.

  1. wrote a cool post about our security in detail
  2. we got banned by Microsoft and Google. Wrote about it here, tried to get some love from /r/privacy and /r/privacytoolsio, but was banned because of a product promotion that was not run by mods.

Still waiting for some feedback from the community!
