Category: Instant messenging
URL: https://www.spixi.io ; https://github.com/ProjectIxian/Spixi

Description

Spixi is a next generation instant messenger. It utilizes blockchain technology to provide a secure and private chat experience.
No verification, no phone number and no personal data are required to use Spixi.
Spixi is an Open-source software, the source code is freely open and available on our GitHub repository.

Why I am making the suggestion

We believe that the nature of Spixi and its privacy oriented features might be of interest to your community. We wanted to introduce it to your Reddit community and we would love to have more people help us test it and make it a better private messenger.

My connection with the software

Co-creator and designer of Spixi.

  • I will keep the issue up-to-date if something I have said changes or I remember a connection with the software.

It would be nice if you could add the name of the project next to the "Software Suggestion |" so that it is easier to search for this and to know what this issue is about.

What is the relation between the cryptocurrency and the messenger exactly?

I have the updated the title, thank you for alerting me to this.

The idea behind cryptocurrency is that with time should there be an increased demand for data streaming, users could pay for the stream with this cryptocurrency. It can also be used for purchasing or paying for various services that can be built on the platform. There is absolutely no need to use/own cryptocurrency to use the messenger. The wallet is only there to facilitate potential usage of other services.

I see, I thought maybe the system was similar to Session which utilises cryptocurrency as a reward for hosting nodes. Is your cryptocurrency good in terms of privacy? Would you compare it with something like XMR or ARRR? Also, do you plan on supporting your cryptocurrency only or do you plan on adding more of them?

By the way, I am a simple user, not someone from the team, I am just asking out of curiosity.

The blockchain segment of the project relies on DLT nodes, and operators of these node receive rewards in IxiCash. The S2 network also relies on S2 nodes, which are incentivized with IxiCash. Spixi is a p2p messenger (decentralized as is the entire platform), and on rare occasions where this is necessary, clients will relay data through the S2 node. There are significant differences between the projects you mentioned and it would be difficult to compare them in a single comment.

We are looking at ways to integrate more wallets within the app itself, so it is something that is possible and we are considering.

You are welcome to join our community, we are available on various channels, you can get much more information there:)

The link to the roadmap of the project on the main site seems to link to nothing.
https://www.spixi.io/index.html#roadmap
Is the project planning on doing an actual validation of encryption and system reliability, security privacy, with a pentesting company such as cure53 or likewise at some point?

Hi @GintokiHub The roadmap needs to be updated, as we have already added some voice calls and file transfer. We are releasing an update once every month (or 2) and the updated roadmap will be online in January.
We are certainly planning on doing validation soon. The goal is to add all the features we want into the decentralized chat before we submit it for validation.

If that's how your team planned it it sounds promiseful to me! I will be following up for sure.
Good to see the gameplan seems so well-thought. Also I wish you the best health and all for puliing it off : ]

Thank you for the kind words :) We are doing our best, but the work could be done much faster if we had extra help, so if anybody feels that this is something they can help with, we would love to discuss it!
All the best in the new year as well ;)

@Rexoflex Could you please describe in more depth what is the purpose of the DLT network in the context of what problems it solves for instant messaging? For example you could compare to Session if that makes it easier.

From what I understand, messages are planned to be E2E encrypted, but the network is not anonymous, IP address are not hidden, and it's hence a truly P2P network. But then what is the role of nodes? To relay messages when one of the parties is not online?
