I am the author of Dnote
Dnote is a simple, free and open source note-taking software that supports end-to-end encrypted backup. It works a CLI, web client, browser extension, IDE plugin in order to minimize switching environment and keep the users focused. It is also self hostable with a single binary.
Criteria
Works as a web client, and the browser extension. Non technical users have been building personal knowledge base using those. Also works in a terminal for technical users.
CLI supports Linux, macOS, Windows. The web application is WAI-ARIA compliant and cross-browser. The browser extension supports Firefox and Chrome.
It is a free and open source software under GPLv3 and AGPLv3.

All data is stored local-first in SQLite3 which is considered a recommended storage format for preservation of digital content.

@blacklight447-ptio It offers a paid, hosted version of its free and open source product which users can choose to self-host.
So i understand its similar to how Nextcloud operates? open source self hostable solution, which can also be host for you by paying money.
Although I am not familiar with Nextcloud, what you describe is indeed how Dnote works as a business.
